Citrix Support for Microsoft® .NET
“We live in the information age but information is worth nothing - nothing - if you can't access it when you need it and wherever you are. Together Microsoft and Citrix are taking access to new levels. Anytime, anywhere, any device, any connection.” - Steve Ballmer | CEO, Microsoft Corporation How does Microsoft’s .NET strategy affect Citrix? Will Citrix support .NET? If so, how? These are all common questions frequently asked by Citrix customers and partners alike. Therefore, I would like to take a few moments to respond to these questions and summarize Citrix’s strategy for supporting Microsoft .NET Framework today and tomorrow. To begin, I’d like to express Citrix’s overall enthusiasm for Microsoft .NET as an outstanding and innovative new computing paradigm. .NET will help change the way we look at applications and application development—for the better. Remember life before word processors when typewriters ruled the world? (Perhaps I’m showing my age here.) I can remember having to re-type a form letter over and over when all I needed to do was to change the name, address and salutation. I can also remember how astounded I was when I discovered word processors, which allowed me to save documents as electronic files for editing without re-typing the entire document. Word processors caused a fundamental shift in the way we thought about document creation. And at Citrix, we believe that Microsoft .NET will have a similar effect on how we develop and use applications. Using .NET, developers will be able to re-use code within XML “Web Services” for a variety of application uses, and companies will gain new competitive advantages allowing them to stay more in touch with customers, partners and suppliers. Although client/server applications are incredibly sophisticated today, they still lack a fundamental ability to interact with other applications. Consider, for example, the supply chain. Today it’s often a series of phone calls, faxes and e-mails to track orders and shipments. Wouldn’t it be great to have a single, online system for tracking inventory levels, negotiating prices for components, coordinating delivery, invoicing and payment? As a supply-chain manager, why can’t my system interact with my suppliers and customers, so I can avoid repetitive manual tasks? With Microsoft .NET, developers can create XML “Web Services” to allow disparate computing systems and applications to interact with each other in a meaningful way. This will ultimately change the way we work today. .NET will enable us to work smarter—not harder. For more information, please contact our sales department on 0870 242 2528 |
