Impero Software - Features

Centrally log all network computer activity

Everything users do on your network is discretely logged to a central location. Impero Logviewer makes it easy to view these logs and detailed reports on network computer activity can be produced. These logs are useful to prove access to a particular resource, show what documents a particular user has printed or show how long a student was off task for and what they were doing during that time.

Monitor & Record Remote Screens

Impero allows you to watch all computer screens live from your own computer. You can discretely monitor what is happening live and record remote screens for later review. Recording the remote screens can be useful to prove misbehaviour or good work and can be replayed using any computer.

Choose from Live images or Still thumbnails. The total Thumbnail images viewable at any given time is dependant on your screen resolution.

View screenshots of attempted banned resource access

Being alerted when an illegal resource is accessed can be invaluable. Students no longer dare to go off task - they know the teacher or administrator will be alerted! To make things more interesting, a screenshot of the access attempt is recorded for evidence.

An example of this could be to detect when a student tries to access MSN Messenger, Impero will block this application, but a screenshot of the access attempt will be available and optionally stored for later review. Impero can also alert you if students type specific words and sentences, perfect for detecting 'Cyber Bullying'.

View all open and previously opened resources

Besides viewing a live image of remote computer screens, you can see all current open windows and previously opened windows of any logged on user. This is useful when a student is trying to hide a particular website. It doesn't matter if they minimise this website and pretend to continue working, you can see it anyway. From the Impero Console you can see all websites and applications users have opened, all printed documents, all deleted files and much more.

Detect Written Words With Evidence

Add a word to Impero's blocking system and you will be alerted when a network user types it. Further more, Impero will store a screenshot at the time of detection for evidence and optionally make this available for later review. This is ideal to detect and stop abuse or Cyber Bullying in Emails and Instant Messenger programs.

Students may eventually stop the abuse altogether as they do not know which words will alert you.

Blank or Freeze all computer screens

Gaining attention from users is no longer a difficult task. At the click of a button all computers will be locked.

Even if the computer is restarted, Impero will automatically lock the screen again.

Block access to any website, application, folder or file

One of Impero's most powerful features is the ability to block access to any resource available, with just 2 clicks of the mouse. Once blocked, the resource cannot be accessed by any network user in the same group.

If the resource is accessed, you will be instantly alerted, the resource will be banned and you can retrieve a screenshot of the violation for evidence.

As a result, Impero is able to help keep students on task during computer based lessons.

Disable the Internet for an individual or the whole group

With one click of the mouse you can instantly block all Internet Access for your class/group or any number of individuals. This can prove invaluable in education where certain lessons do not require the use of the Internet; student have to work and not secretly browse the Internet.

Set Blocking Schedules

Blocking Schedules give you the power to ban any resource at certain times of the day or week. For example, between 10am and 11am on Tuesday you can disable the Internet, then between 11am and 2pm all users in your group can be restricted to a 'white list' of several websites and MSN Messenger is blocked.

Transfer Files/Folders to/from remote computers

Impero allows you to transfer files from your own computer to one or many remote users. The file will be sent to the remote users Home Directory, whether that resides on their computer or on a remote server.

Once the file has been sent it can be automatically opened ready for the user to work with.

Ask Questions/Survey

With a few clicks of the mouse you can ask all users in your group a yes/no, multiple choice or written answer question. The results of the survey are returned to you so you know who gave a particular answer.

This feature is an extremely quick method of gathering results from a set of users on a particular topic.

Shutdown, Restart or Logoff any network user

Being able to remotely shutdown computers is a very simple but very useful tool. With the additional options Impero provides, this feature becomes an invaluable tool.

Teachers who struggle to stop computer usage at the end of the lesson will be happy to know you can force students to log off so there is no more waiting for them to finish.

Automatic shutdown/logoff when idle for a period

This feature gives you the ability to automatically log off or shutdown computers when they are not in use. Useful for power management and can save your school money.

If the computer is left idle for the time you specify, it automatically shuts down or logs off.

Remote Logon

Remotely Log on to selected machines with a few clicks of the mouse. Handy for remote administration or preparing a lesson by logging machines on and getting everything ready for younger students.

Restrict users to a 'whitelist' of websites

Unlike some conventional web-filters, the web-filter inside Impero gives you powerful control over what websites network users can and cannot visit. Again, you will be alerted a website that is not on your 'allow list' is accessed.

Change the network password of any student

No more log-on excuses. Impero has the ability to change network passwords. This can save valuable lesson time since you do not need to ask for a technician or send the student off to find one.

Power on all computers

If your computers support W-O-L (Wake On LAN) Impero can send a special message to all computers in your group. This message will tell them to power up.

It's nice to have the ICT Suite ready to use before the lesson begins.

Create Groups

Without any configuration, Impero will display all users throughout your network. However, you can create groups based on computer or username configurations.

It is useful to be able to perform certain functions to a set of computers or users. For example, when blocking the Internet, by using groups you can enable this for your ICT Suite, or just usernames beginning with '02'.

The grouping feature in Impero makes classroom and LAN Management very easy.

Send Instant Messages or Create a Forum

Creating a Forum for users allows you to keep in constant communication with them wherever they are.

In an educational environment you can have one forum for staff, another for your own classroom and another for several students.

Run Files and Websites

Impero gives you the ability to open a document, website or run a file on remote computers. This makes light work for teachers since you will not have to ask students to browse to a URL that is 30 characters long, simply run the website for them.

Some staff like to lock all computer screens then run Microsoft Word on all computers and disable the Internet.

Disable duplicate logons

It's a common problem that some network users 'lend' their password to other users. Enabling this feature on Impero will stop this. All users should use their own username and password to gain access to the computer network and Internet.

Remote Command Prompt

For the more technically minded, a remote command prompt can prove to be an invaluable tool. This offers a lot of functionality through one feature, from refreshing group policies to remote defrag.

Record and annotate your screen

Create a video recording of your screen, adding labels as you go. The video can show how you did a particular task. For example, you can create a demo on 'How to insert Clipart' showing step by step how to do this.

You can then send this video to network users and they can refer to this video at any time.

Broadcast a screen to the rest of the group

You may have a projector where everyone in the suite can see your computer screen, but it's nice and sometimes useful to show your screen on their screen. Better still, you can show a student screen to the rest of the class.

While the chosen screen is being broadcasted to the class, or certain users, you can annotate the screen highlighting words for them to see more clearly.

Pass control of the broadcasted screen to an individual

While you are broadcasting a particular screen to other computer users, you can pass control to anyone watching. For example, if you are demonstrating your screen, you can ask another computer user to point out or highlight a word on your screen. In this case you would pass control to them, they can highlight the word, then you can take control back.

Take Remote Control of any networked computer

Impero gives you real-time control of any networked computer. Ideal for administrative tasks or help and support to individuals. Impero uses special techniques to make the remote control session feel as smooth and fast as possible, which in turn makes it feel very realistic.

The remote control uses very little bandwidth, super fast compression and minimal CPU usage. There are 5 speeds to choose from, each having a different advantage.
